Kovanov Font for Bold Campaign Designs

It was 8:45 PM, and I was finalizing the last details of a seasonal sale campaign for a boutique skincare brand. The client wanted something that felt nostalgic yet modern, a visual language that would speak to both Gen X and Gen Z audiences. That’s when I landed on Kovanov—a vintage-styled display font with a confident edge. It wasn’t just about aesthetics; it was about how this typeface could carry the message across multiple platforms without losing its voice.

A Vintage Edge for Modern Campaigns

Kovanov is a display font with a strong personality. Its curves and angular cuts give it a retro feel, but the assertiveness in its design keeps it from feeling outdated. It has that “handcrafted” look, which makes it perfect for branding that wants to feel personal yet professional. The PUA encoding means I had access to all the glyphs and swashes without any extra effort—something that can be a real time-saver when designing promotional materials.

I used Kovanov as the main headline font for the campaign’s Instagram posts and YouTube thumbnails. On mobile screens, it read clearly even at smaller sizes, which is crucial for fast-scrolling feeds. The boldness of the font helped the headlines stand out against both dark and light backgrounds, ensuring visibility across different social media formats.

Real-World Applications Across Platforms

For the product teaser, I paired Kovanov with a clean sans serif font for the supporting text. This combination worked well for email banners and website headers, where readability is key. The contrast between the two fonts created a natural visual hierarchy, guiding the viewer’s eye from the attention-grabbing headline to the more detailed copy below.

On Pinterest, where visuals are king, Kovanov was ideal for creating quote graphics and branded pins. The vintage aesthetic matched the brand’s packaging design, reinforcing consistency across touchpoints. I also tested it on a webinar banner, where it added a sense of authority and approachability—a subtle but effective way to influence first impressions.

In digital ads, Kovanov performed well as a callout font. Its distinct style made it easy to spot in a cluttered feed, which is essential for driving clicks. I found that using it sparingly—like for campaign labels or decorative titles—helped maintain balance without overwhelming the viewer.

Readability and Design Best Practices

While Kovanov excels in display roles, it’s important to remember that it’s not suited for long-form content or dense information. For example, using it in a lengthy blog post or infographic might reduce readability. Instead, it works best for short headlines, taglines, and decorative elements where impact matters more than legibility.

When working with mobile previews, I made sure to test the font size and spacing. Even though Kovanov has a strong presence, too much compression can make it less readable. Keeping the text size above 20px helped maintain clarity, especially when the design included image overlays or dark backgrounds.

Font pairing is another area where Kovanov shines. I paired it with a minimalist sans serif like Helvetica Neue for body text, which kept the overall design clean and professional. For more creative projects, like a content series or branded template pack, I experimented with script fonts to add texture without clashing with Kovanov’s structure.

What to Consider Before Using Kovanov

Before integrating Kovanov into a campaign, it’s important to check the available styles, alternates, and ligatures. The font comes with several variations, which can be useful for adding visual interest to different elements of a design. Also, ensure that the file format supports your platform—whether you’re designing for web, print, or digital ads.

Commercial licensing is another factor to consider, especially if you're using the font in merchandise, client campaigns, or digital products. Always verify the terms of use to avoid any legal issues down the line.

Kovanov isn’t a one-size-fits-all solution, but when used thoughtfully, it can elevate your campaign visuals. Whether you're launching a product, promoting a course, or building an online shop, this font brings a unique character that stands out in a crowded digital space.
